Black Stars wrap up preparations ahead of Mali trip

The Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, completed their preparations for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Mali on Tuesday with a last training session at the Accra Sports Stadium.

For the first time in recent memory, the team will leave for Bamako, Mali, later today with a totally fit 26-man squad for the crucial match. This is Otto Addo’s first competitive game as coach.

Ghana hopes to end a run of dismal results, having yet to win a game in 2024. Their most recent victory came against Madagascar in the World Cup qualifications, followed by a loss to the Comoros, a winless streak in the Africa Cup of Nations, another defeat to Nigeria, and a recent tie with Uganda.

The Black Stars remain hopeful under Addo’s leadership, aiming to qualify for the 2026 World Cup hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Currently sitting fourth in Group I, Ghana trails Comoros, Mali, and Madagascar by three points.

They will meet Mali on Thursday, June 6, in what appears to be the most critical game for Otto Addo, who takes over as the team’s permanent head coach.

The team appears determined to turn their fortunes around.
