Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku sidelined with knee injury

Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday that France international Christopher Nkunku will be out for an extended period of time due to a knee injury suffered during the team’s pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund.

A club statement released on Tuesday detailed the situation: “Nkunku has sustained a knee injury which will rule the forward out for an extended period. The 25-year-old has undergone an operation and will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department.

Nkunku, who joined Chelsea for £52 million from RB Leipzig earlier this summer, was expected to play a key role for the Blues, who struggled last season and hope to improve this season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Unfortunately, this setback could keep him out for several months, delaying his participation in upcoming games.

While the talented forward was set to wear No. 18 for the 2023/24 season, Chelsea fans will have to wait to see him make his Premier League debut. Nkunku’s absence will also include the highly anticipated first game against Liverpool on August 13.

Nkunku was impressive during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States, scoring three goals, but he now faces a four-month absence.
