GPL 2024/25: Opponents of Nsoatreman FC to get free ride with automatic 3-0 wins after club’s sudden league exit

According to Article 13(5) of the competition rules, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declared that the teams playing Nsoatreman FC will receive three points and three goals.

Following the GFA’s formal acceptance of Nsoatreman FC’s withdrawal from the 2024–2025 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, this decision was made.

On March 14, 2025, Nsoatreman FC formally informed the GFA of their departure, citing worries over player safety and security.

The disturbance preceding their February match against Asante Kotoko, which unfortunately resulted in the death of passionate Kotoko fan Nana Pooley and subsequent imprisonment of club owner Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, is directly responsible for the team’s decision.

Despite the league’s month-long suspension and security reforms, Nsoatreman FC faced another attack while traveling to play Samartex, prompting their exit from the league.

The case has been forwarded to the GFA’s prosecutor, and disciplinary action will be taken.

Due to Nsoatreman FC’s withdrawal, their opponents will receive three points and three goals, and their remaining games will be deemed forfeited.

In addition, the GFA Prosecutor will assess the circumstances and take into account further sanctions against Nsoatreman FC.

Without a doubt, this development will affect the league’s rankings and have an effect on the competition as a whole.
