Hearts of Oak have officially parted ways with Dutch trainer Martinus Koopman following poor results in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
The veteran coach who was chosen at the start of the season to resuscitate the club’s fortunes by replacing Slavko Matic as the next substantive coach will no longer be in command of the club, according to an official statement released on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
Koopman led the club to a strong pre-season campaign, scoring a slew of goals and achieving large wins, but he was unable to reproduce that form in the Premier League.

Under Koopman, the Phobians played 10 2023/24 Ghana Premier League games but secured only two wins, while drawing six and also losing twice to Real Tamale United and promoted side Bofoakwa Tano in the first and third games of the season respectively.
Abdul Rahim Bashiru, the assistant coach is tasked to lead the team on an interim basis as the club seek to restructure their technical team.
Hearts of Oak, who currently sit in the 11th position with 12 points will go toe-to-toe with Accra Lions in their next game.
The team has been linked with experienced Ghanaian tactician Bashir Hayford, who claims to have been approached by the club about a possible managerial position.
However, the club denied claims of considerable support for Koopman, only to confirm his departure later.
Koopman was the club’s fourth coach since the start of last season. Matic took over when Samuel Boadu quit the team after only a few games. However, the Serbian’s performances were unconvincing, prompting disgruntled supporters to vent their rage, culminating to his departure.
David Ocloo, the then-assistant coach, took over as temporary coach until the end of last season and subsequently rejoined Asante Kotoko’s technical team with the return of Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum, who now leads the Porcupine Warriors.
