Legendary Ghanaian musician/ songwriter, Kwame Nsiah Apau, otherwise known as Okyeame Kwame has shared that he is not prepared to take up any leadership role at the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
He claims that he is not willing to compromise his hard-earned image and reputation for a leadership position with MUSIGA, and he also claims that he is not psychologically equipped for such a demanding post.
The “Small Small” hitmaker who is also known as the Rap Doctor in an interview on Accra- based Okay Fm opined that musicians naturally hold leadership roles due to their extensive social media following. However, a MUSIGA position requires more dedication and intense focus.

In the words of Okyeame Kwame, “Musicians are leaders by themselves, with millions of followers on their social media. So if you position yourself as a leader of musicians, you are indirectly a leader of leaders, and all these leaders have their own ideas and styles of leading to become successful. So immediately you position yourself in front of them, you have to be as dedicated as Obour was and be focused on doing it with all intensity, otherwise, you will fail,” he said.
“To tell you the truth, I am currently not psychologically prepared to be able to lead leaders. I think that it’s not yet my time. I’ve worked with MUSIGA, and GHAMRO and realized that I could not handle all that. Maybe in the future, I might.
“If I go, I may see negative headlines. I am not ready to sacrifice my image for MUSIGA. Maybe in the future. But for now, I am okay with being a member,” the renowned singer added.
