Ghana striker Inaki Williams is seeking to lead Athletic Bilbao to their first Copa del Rey trophy in 40 years, following an excellent performance in the club’s 3-0 semi-final victory over Atletico Madrid.
Athletic Bilbao has a lengthy history of success in the Copa del Rey, having won the tournament 23 times, however they have not won it since 1984. However, with Inaki in peak form, they will be confident heading into the April 6 final versus Mallorca.
Inaki was key to Athletic’s triumph over Atletico, scoring and assisting as the hosts cruised over their opponents at San Mames on Thursday night.

In the previous round, the Ghanaian played a key role in Los Leones’ 4-2 win over Barcelona.
Off-field disturbances clouded the build-up to the match against Atletico, but Athletic got off to a great start, seizing the lead within the first 15 minutes. Nico Williams’ cross found Inaki, who forcefully volleyed past Jan Oblak to make the score 1-0.
Athletic doubled their lead immediately before halftime, with Inaki providing for his younger brother Nico. The elder Williams sibling’s cutback found Nico, who finished calmly past Oblak to score it 2-0.
Athletic scored their third goal around the hour mark, putting an end to Atletico’s hopes for a comeback. Oihan Sancet’s early effort was saved by Oblak, but the ball dropped to Gorka Guruzeta six yards out, who made no mistake.
Inaki Williams has been a driving force behind Athletic’s success this season, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists across all competitions. His connection with his brother Nico has been especially fruitful, and the two siblings will look to maintain their remarkable form in the final against Mallorca.
