Inter Miami has terminated goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s contract, just weeks after he expressed concerns about the club’s readiness for the arrival of Lionel Messi.
Marsman openly questioned whether Inter Miami’s infrastructure was ready to handle a player of Lionel Messi’s stature in June.
He shared his reservations with ESPN, stating, “I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival. We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready. But I hope he comes.”

However, the consequences of his comments have now materialized, resulting in Inter Miami terminating Marsman’s contract.
Messi’s move to Inter Miami last month was a resounding success, with the Argentine superstar scoring seven goals in just four appearances. His outstanding performance, which included a brace against FC Dallas in the League Cup round of 16, has propelled him to joint-fourth place on the club’s all-time top scorers list.
Marsman, a 32-year-old Dutch goalkeeper, joined the MLS club in 2021 and appeared in 29 games during his tenure.
