Kwan Pa, an award-winning Ghanaian band, will debut their next production, a musical drama film named Sweet Palm Wine, on October 26 in Accra cinemas. The film depicts a family of three who return to their village home after experiencing economic struggle in the city. It incorporates Kwan Pa’s unique palm wine music, which combines highlife, jazz, and indigenous Ghanaian rhythms.
Kwan Pa, famed for popularizing palm wine music, has created an intriguing new soundtrack to complement the film. The soundtrack “Sweet Palm Wine,” which contains their popular EP “Palm Wine Music,” will be released on October 25th, ahead of the movie’s premiere. The soundtrack comprises nine songs written in Kwan Pa’s signature palm wine style, with lyrics in English, Twi, Ewe, and Ga. It also has a track from Kwan Pa leader Asah Nkansah and producer Kojosteve.

“We wanted to create a musical experience that showcases Ghana’s rich culture and heritage,” said Asah, Kwan Pa’s bandleader. “Sweet Palm Wine combines drama, humor and our style of palm wine music to tell a story of family and overcoming adversity and finding love.”
Kwan Pa was founded in 2016 and has since achieved popularity throughout Ghana and West Africa for their lively and melodious take on palm wine music. They have performed on large stages in Dubai, Moscow, and Qatar, and have received numerous accolades for finest traditional band in Ghana. The band is well-known for songs such as “5 Days of Christmas, The Kontomire Song” and “Felix Cannot Dance.”
Sweet Palm Wine was produced by Wahala Entertainment, their record company, and directed by Wael H. Hakim. It also features Fred Amugi, Pascaline Edwards, Aaron Adatsi, Willie Chambers, Ricky Kofi Adelayitar, and Rosa K.O Mensah, to name a few. The film’s musical score combines Kwan Pa’s characteristic style with new songs written specifically for the film.
“We’re excited to share this musical experience on the big screen,” said Wael, the film’s director. “Kwan Pa’s music is the heart and soul of this film. Their palm wine style brings so much joy and life to the story.”
On October 26, Sweet Palm Wine will be shown in Accra’s Silverbird Cinemas. Kwan Pa’s soundtrack, with the same title, will be available digitally globally on October 25.
