Many pastors and gospel singers will opt out of their marriages if given the chance – Selina Boateng

Gospel singer Selina Boateng has spoken openly about the difficulties many people endure in marriage, particularly within the Christian community.

On Onua FM’s Efie Ne Fie show, she shared her own thoughts with host Ohemaa Acheampomaa, revealing that many couples in ministry are secretly undergoing hardship for public image.

According to the award-winning singer, divorce rates would increase if the decision to leave a marriage was made without regard for society or religious criticism.

“If people had the liberty to openly walk away from their marriages, divorce cases would shoot up like gunfire. It would be an eyesore because the numbers would be overwhelming,” she remarked.

She further opened up about the emotional burden many Christian women, especially those in ministry, carry in silence due to societal expectations and religious scrutiny.

“And the sad part? Once you’re married, you can’t even speak about what you’re going through. Even the people who pressured you into it won’t be there to console you.”

Selina used the opportunity to make a heartfelt appeal to the Christian community to be more compassionate and realistic about marriage, particularly regarding its impact on ministry and mental health.

“I want to use this opportunity to plead with everyone: if you’re a Christian and your marriage falls apart, it affects everything. Your ministry, your peace, your purpose. Especially if you’re a gospel musician. That’s why we need to wake up. We are at fault. And I’m not just speaking for myself, I know many mothers who are suffering in silence. Even when they speak out, they are not believed. They’re blamed instead.”

According to her, the silence surrounding these issues exacerbates the situation, and many people are afraid of being judged for getting treatment or revealing the truth.

“So much is happening behind closed doors. If we allowed people to speak freely, you’d be shocked at how many men of God and gospel musicians would admit they married the wrong person,” she concluded.
