Regina Daniels, a Nollywood actress, has spoken out against the use of young girls as laborers in the Nigerian film industry.
She stated in an Instagram video that the industry is not a safe place for children to work. Regina Daniels revealed that she met a 14-year-old makeup artist who moved from set to set with no parental supervision or guardian.
She described the young girl as wearing “a short skirt, crop top” and working as a make-up artist on the movie set under another young guy for free.
“Her parents are far away in Port Harcourt and she came to Lagos last year. She sleeps in different hotel rooms with whoever agrees to accommodate her every night and is not willing to go back to her parents.”
“This girl told me that she is here to learn but trust me, I know the industry, the industry is a very dangerous place for young girls,” the actress added.
Regina Daniels stated that she took the young girl under her wing and sent her to boarding school to further her education.

The actress, who also began her career at a young age, stated that while she was fortunate to have her mother’s protection from unwanted attention, this is not the case for many of these young girls.
Regina Daniels stated that the young girl mentioned the names of some celebrities with whom she had worked on set, prompting her to wonder why those colleagues did not question why a minor was working on set or staging an intervention.
She urged her co-stars not to turn a blind eye and to criticize producers and other filmmakers who hire minors on set.
The actress went on to say that she has vowed to fight any movie producer who hires young children for movie roles.
