Rocky Dawuni to perform LIVE at the Legendary SOB’s in New York

Following his recent performance with the United Nations Environmental Program in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire for the 50th Anniversary of World Environment Day, legendary Ghanaian musician and activist Rocky Dawuni will be heading to the US for a series of shows beginning with a very special performance at SOB’s on Saturday, July 8th!! This intimate full band performance should not be missed!! Rocky will then perform on Sunday, July 9th at Music Haven in Schenectady, upstate New York, as well as on Saturday, July 22nd at Grand Performances in Los Angeles for the much-anticipated Afro Funke’ 20th Anniversary Celebration presented by KCRW.

Rocky has been touring the world, most recently in Costa Rica, the United States, and Ghana, spreading his upbeat “Afro Roots” sound. The three-time GRAMMY nominee has just released a brand new video, “Africa Till I Die,” for his collaboration with Ghanaian Highlife sensation Kyekyeku, which is currently on heavy rotation in Africa and beyond!

“Africa Till I Die” is a commercially successful album. It combines Ghana’s native sound, which is the result of a melting pot, with reggae, which was born in Jamaica and claims African roots. The highlife rhythm has been slowed down and, by allowing the bass to flourish and the organ and horns to place their punctuations, provides a perfect backdrop for the reggae vocals, even without a skank guitar. “This is the best example of a successful encounter, and it could only happen in Africa,” says Pan African Music.

Rocky recently appeared on a smokin’ track called “Afreeca The Future” with world renown Jamaican group Morgan Heritage and Lord Alajiman of Daara J fame from Senegal as part of their brand new “The Homeland” album. The album features an incredible lineup of artists from across the African continent! “Musically, they take the listener on a journey that not only reminds them of days gone by, but also of days to come.”

Rocky Dawuni was nominated for his third GRAMMY Award for “Best Global Music Performance” earlier this year for his single “Neva Bow Down” featuring Blvk H3ro from Jamaica. Rocky has more exciting African collaborations coming up this year, and he is currently working on his 9th studio album, which will continue to build on his signature sound, bringing much needed conscious music to unite generations and cultures!
