Some Musicians Join MUSIGA For Visas – Edem Alleges

Ghanaian rap sensation, Denning Edem Hotor, well known by the stage name, Edem has made a shocking revelation about why some Ghanaian artistes apply to join the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

According to the ‘Toto’ hitmaker, the union has digressed from its core mandate of representing the interests of musicians and building a resourceful music industry.

In an interview with Giovanni Caleb on 3FM Drive, Edem said that the majority of people now join the union because they want to travel abroad.

“MUSIGA membership, mostly people take that membership because they want to travel abroad. You get the card so when you get to the embassy, you will not talk plenty. Aside from that, there is nothing you do,” he said.

The award-winning rapper further congratulated the newly elected MUSIGA President Bessa Simons while expressing his disbelief in the prospects of the union.

“Congratulations Uncle Bessa. If the institution has been there for years from Sidiku Buari to Diana Hopeson, I can’t also undermine some of the things they’ve done but I’m saying that once MUSIGA is not run as a business, I don’t think it will thrive,” he said.
