Multiple award-winning rapper, Sarkodie, has defended GHC 100,000 payment for a 3-minute documentary.
Yesterday, Ghana Crimes, a Twitter page dedicated to documenting government crimes, claimed that the CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Afia Asabea Asare, spent Gh100,000 (1 billion) on a 3-minute film documentary on her management.
According to Ghana Crimes, “the contract which was awarded to Yaw Pare Photography was through Sole-Source.”

The contract and the sum involved sparked a Twitter debate, with users debating whether the GEPA CEO overspent on the documentary and vice versa.
Sarkodie, who observed the exchange online, chimed in, saying that a 3-minute documentary could indeed cost that much.
Although Sarkodie does not have access to GEPA cost evidence, his experience as a creative implies that it does cost a lot to produce content of any kind in the creative industry.
“Don’t know the details and if there’s evidence that she lied then thats a problem but if people are doubting a 3 minute doc could cost that much, then y’all need some education… my tour “announcement” video not doc or music video was close to that amount ( of course camera, concept etc will play part ) our space ( creative industry ) is very expensive,” he wrote.
